‘Elucidate, Enfold, Explicate’
‘Elucidate, Enfold, Explicate’ Small Works from a Big Place
Regional Victoria Traveling Exhibition, Riddell’s Creek Station, Castlemaine Station, Castlemaine State Festival, Nov 2018 - April 2019, Victoria, AUS.
The artwork Elucidate, is part of a new lens based series which explores the apprehensions of post-colonial arts practitioners a decade and a half into the 21st century. The artist operates within a system loaded with the relationships and tensions of place-makers in contemporary Australasia. This work probes this loaded scenario to visually cobble and piece together a frantic, busy and loaded scene shot from on high. Colours inverted on roads to everywhere, endless loops of traffic and detritus. This is a digitally enhanced work that aims to present the audience with a nervous energy to grapple with.
The artwork Enfold, considers a familiar place at an island location from the perspective of a first time tourist. The sacred site providing a rich sense of belonging between land, mountain and sky and this is what I try to capture in this work. The combination of the overexposed sky and the placement of snow on the peak rising to above provide a serene calm scene, made to lull the audiences’ into peace and quietude. Colours inverted on roads to everywhere, endless loops of traffic and detritus. This is a digitally enhanced work that aims to present the audience with a nervous energy to grapple with.
The artwork ‘Explicate’, operates within a system loaded with the relationships and tensions of place-makers in contemporary Australasia. This work participates with the disruptions and disturbances of colour fields and shapes found on the ground level of the metropolitan Melbourne. Presented with a limited colour palate restricts the interpretation available for the audience, yet with an abstract beauty that draws you in.
